Jim Robb has called the Yukon home for over 45 years. He specializes in recording by camera, ink, and watercolour the "Colourful Five Percent", a phrase he coined to describe the colourful and unusual characters and historical buildings of the north. He defines his drawings as the "exaggerated truth" where the shapes, angles, colours, and features of his subjects are emphasized and embellished to express their inner strengths and character. Jim uses his keen eye, his familiarity and rapport with his subjects, to produce sensitive paintings and photographs. Robb's passion for collecting and promoting Yukon's past and present is taking many directions. "The Colourful Five Per Cent Illustrated" is a magazine series featuring Jim Robb's drawings, photographs, and stories. It also includes many fine works by other Yukon artists, past and present. Dedicated to Yukon's legacy, it is said to be "read in all the better cabins anywhere". Besides the Five Percent magazines, Robb's work is featured in a series of large art cards, numerous limited editions and in the Yukon's permanent art collection. His work was recognized in 1984 with an award from the Yukon Historical and Museums Society and is gaining signifigance throughout Canada. |
